Artist Statement

When work started on this collection during the summer of 2020, I could not predict the final outcome.  Through twelve months, (July 2020 - June 2021), I listened, watched and analyzed.  What was the main focus of discussion, social media and news stories for that month?  Was there one common thread?  The answer to those questions was the beginning of the monthly theme.  Concepts were conceived, reworked and refined to create the art for each month.  

The approach I use in my work is a combination of symbolism and surrealism to challenge the viewer and myself as an artist.  I feel the importance of art is to communicate and record through the use of a visual message.  My artwork has been described as "smart and thoughtful and dense with information; gorgeous with color. Mysterious and challenging...puzzles for the viewer to solve."
